Conquering Snowden - the highest peak in Wales and Britain

The May Day long weekend saw us head to north Wales to ascend the highest peak in England and Wales - Mt Snowdon. A land of rugged and rocky scenery, void of any trees, has been known to trouble many an inexperienced mountaineer.

Undeterred, we set off along the stony Pyg Track, taking us past several lakes and peaks, As we entered a narrow ridge leading to the summit, we discovered how under prepared we were - the wind threatened to knock us off our feet, the temperature dropped and our hands and faces went numb. We powered on and reached the 1,085m summit where a spectacular view awaited us. The total climb took 2.5 hours.

We returned down the longer, less scenic but easier Llanberis track stopping for a well deserved hot chocolate and welsh cakes on the way.

All in all a great trip, however a tip for the ladies, toilet stops are few and far between with very little cover to discreetly relieve oneself when nature calls.

The drive from London is approximately 4.5 - 5.5 hours long depending on traffic. Climbers should be prepared with a waterproof jacket and trousers, beanie and gloves.
