55. Go see the Queen at the Royal Ascot

We tried our luck at The Royal Ascot races, one of the world's most famous race meetings. After arriving early to stake out a picnic area in the silver ring enclosure, we settled back and sipped champagne and watched the other racegoers - ladies in pretty dresses and hats and gents dressed in their suits. After a couple of hours of picnicking, it was time to place my first bet - what colour the queen's hat would be.

Please let it be green!!!! After making our way to the rails - the closest I've ever been to a track, we waited with anticipation to see her! And there she was, travelling from a horse-drawn carriage, sitting next to Prince Phillip. She was wearing a blue outfit with a white hat (and a blue sash). Oh well, maybe next time!

I put a few small bets on horses with jockeys wearing green, but after picking the least favourite at 100-1 odds, and coming dead last (unsurprisingly) I quickly gave up on that approach. Even still, by the end of the day, the bookies were up and I was still down. Still, a very fun day to be had in the presence of royalty!
