75. Go see the Oxford v Cambridge boat race

Four hours in Hammersmith for a few minutes of viewing action. The boat race between Oxford and Cambridge has been a 155 year tradition with around 250,000 people lining the Thames River to catch a glimpse of the Dark Blues (Oxford) and the Light Blues (Cambridge) as they power their way down a 6.7km course. The race is televised in the UK and around the world with over 20 million viewers.

We staked our spots mid afternoon along the banks of the Thames, near the Old Ship Inn in Hammersmith. The crowds gathered quickly and by the time the race began, they were 10-people deep. The boats surged past us with the Light Blues in front and just enough time to cheer for a few minutes and then it was off to the closest pub for many of us.

The Dark Blues came from behind to win by 3.5 lengths.
